Gather your friends for a fun and creative experience! Our Barn Quilt Workshops are the perfect opportunity to learn a unique painting technique while creating a beautiful piece of artwork to display on your home, barn, porch, or garden shed.

Each barn quilt is handcrafted using a pre-primed wood panel, framed with pine, and prepared before your workshop. Your chosen design is pre-drawn, making it easy for painters of all experience levels to create a stunning finished piece. During the workshop, you'll learn how to tape, paint, and finish your barn quilt step-by-step with personalized instruction from Sarah Hathaway.

​The Story Behind Barn Quilts

​Barn quilts have become a beloved form of American folk art, adding colorful geometric designs to barns, homes, and businesses throughout the country. Many people also enjoy the stories surrounding barn quilts, including the popular legend that certain quilt patterns may have been used as symbols along the Underground Railroad. While historians continue to debate this theory, the tradition of barn quilts remains a meaningful way to celebrate art, community, and craftsmanship.

Workshop Details

• Private workshops for groups of 4–6 participants
• Workshops begin no later than 2:00 PM
• Approximately 4½–5 hours
• Indoor location required
• This is a standing workshop, so participants should be comfortable standing for much of the event
• Guided instruction provided by Sarah Hathaway
• Perfect for beginners and experienced painters alike

Host Requirements
The host should provide (or arrangements can be made if Sarah is hosting):

• Indoor workspace
• Enough room for 2–3 six-foot tables (depending on group size)
• Access to electricity
• Tables (if available)
• Extension cord if needed

Each participant receives everything needed to complete their barn quilt, including:

• Pre-primed wood barn quilt with pine frame
• Pre-drawn pattern selected by the host
• Paints and brushes
• Frog Tape
• Protective spar urethane finish
• All necessary painting supplies
• Blow dryers available to help speed up drying between steps
